YourMTB.com, SRAM seek rider/spectator correspondents for Crankworx MTB festival
06.27.2007 Boulder, Colorado
YourMTB.com has teamed up with SRAM to cover the Kokanee Crankworx mountain bike festival like it's never been seen before. That's because the "action-packed, bad-ass, gravity fueled" mountain biking festival held July 21-29 at Whistler Bike Park, British Columbia will be seen online through the eyes of the participants and spectators.
YourMTB.com, a user-driven media website and online community, is partnering with the bike industry giant to create the "YourMTB.com/Crankworx Grassroots Channel, powered by SRAM." It's part of an innovative program by YourMTB.com and SRAM to create coverage for the popular festival.
Users of YourMTB.com will apply to be selected as correspondents for the event, and receive SRAM bike equipment in appreciation for the coverage. Correspondent-submitted photos, blogs and videos will be hosted by and featured on YourMTB.com and the Crankworx Grassroots Channel.
SRAM will give away PC 991 Cross Step chains to the 10 correspondents chosen from a pool of applicants. The correspondents who are passionate MTBers are typically not professional journalists, but rather enthusiastic sport participants and athletes who enjoy shooting photos and video and writing blogs.
In addition, everyone attending Crankworx is encouraged to post their photos, blogs and videos of the festival to the Crankworx Grassroots Channel.
SRAM is sponsoring three contests open to anyone, and will award a PC 991 Cross Step chain and PG 980 cassette set each to winners for Best Photo, Best Blog, and Best Video.

Similar Grassroots Channel programs are available to other event organizers, and are a "practically free way for organizers to get enthusiastic coverage of their races or events, plus a permanent record of the event as told by participants," says Steve Outing, founder and publisher of Enthusiast Group LLC, publisher of YourMTB.com. "Event directors we've worked with love the coverage they get from this program."
