Volvo City of Angels Run Ride Helps L.A.'s LIttlest Angels

Los Angeles, California
Volvo City of Angels Run Ride Helps L.A.'s LIttlest Angels

The Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride, which highlights over 65 cultural, historic and scenic sights of Los Angeles, returns for its ninth year with two new and improved ride options a 33+ mile recreational route and a faster-paced 47 mile route for more advanced riders and a new start/finish area at the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park. Sponsored by Volvo, this annual tour is designed for riders with basic cycling skills and moderate fitness levels and is rated "moderate to easy" by the Bicycle Ride Directors Association of America. Both rides will offer a rolling LAPD traffic closure. The ride takes place on Sunday, April 30th.

Also new for this year is a BBQ lunch being served by Wood Ranch BBQ and a raffle after the ride. There will be tons of prizes, music, an Expo area and other entertainment after the ride.

Once again, the 2006 Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride, will help "the city's littlest angels" by donating the ride's profits to help the Childrens Hospital Los Angeles Bloodmobile Fund. Last year's ride attracted more than 1,400 cyclists and raised over $15,000. To date, thanks in large part to Volvo taking on the charity drive as a cause of its own, more than $200,000 has been raised, bringing the Fun Ride very close to its goal of buying a bloodmobile to benefit the children of Los Angeles.

The Fun Ride route begins and ends at the Los Angeles Police Academy in Elysian Park, offering riders a "chamber of commerce" view of Los Angeles including parts of south L.A., downtown, east L.A., Hollywood and Griffith Park. Cyclists head past such popular sites as Staples Center, USC, the Coliseum, Little Tokyo, Olvera Street, Chinatown, the Kodak Theatre, the Hollywood Bowl, Universal Studios, Warner Brothers, Travel Town, the Gene Autry Museum, Our Lady of Angels Cathedral and the Disney Music Hall. In addition, the Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride will offer full ride support, giving cyclists who can't finish the entire route a ride back with their bikes to the police academy.

"The Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride is to showcase every aspect of Los Angeles and celebrate our diversity by bringing people together to have fun and see the uniqueness of our city by bicycle," remarked Fun Ride event producer Peter Heumann. "The route will take people on an all-encompassing ride of Los Angeles, taking in as many scenic, historic and cultural sites as possible in a distance that can be successfully ridden by a reasonably physically fit person. As ride producers, we want to provide for all the rider's safety, while maximizing their enjoyment and enlightenment about Los Angeles."

With registration, all Fun Ride participants are automatically entered in the raffle for a huge number of great prizes including bicycles, parts, accessories, clothes and more. For ride registration, applications can be obtained online at or , or at Southern California bicycle retail stores. Pre-registration must be postmarked by April 14, 2005, and the cost is $25. After April 14, the registration fee is $30. To avoid standing in day-of-event registration lines, participants are encouraged to pre-register and receive their rider numbers in the mail.

Produced by Heumann Powered Productions, the Volvo City of Angels Fun Ride celebrates the outdoor lifestyle that IS Southern California.
