Saris Event Huge Boost for Better Bicycling in Wisconsin

Saris Cycling Group, makers of Bones Racks and CycleOps trainers, welcomed Michael and Dede Barry at a fundraising event for the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin, October 28th. The event raised nearly $25,000 to support bicycle education and advocacy efforts in Wisconsin.

Michael Barry is a 2-time Canadian Olympian, member of the Discovery Channel Professional Cycling Team, and has ridden for the United States Postal Service Cycling Team and Saturn Pro Cycling Teams. Dede Barry was born in Milwaukee, and has won two gold medals at the Pan American Games, two World Championship medals, six National Championship titles, and a Silver Olympic medal in Athens.

"We're thrilled with the results of our second annual Saris fundraiser," said Dar Ward, Executive Director of the Bicycle Federation. "Saris out-does itself every year. This event shows how industry, athletes, and advocates can join together to work for positive change and have a good time doing it."

The event included food, drink, music by the Sean Michael Dargan Band, a silent auction, a raffle, and the good company of hundreds of avid cyclists. The silent auction included 110 items valued at over $30,000 from businesses all across the country including Action, Associated Bank, Atkins Verona Bike Shoppe, Belgioioso Cheese, Bell Sports, Cane Creek, Crankbrothers, Cycle Ops, Dick's Sporting Goods, Duplication Factory, Earth Rider Bike Shop, Erik's Bike Shop, Ethridge Vintage Photos, Hawley USA, Hayes Bicycle Group, Horizon Fitness, Horribly Hilly Hundreds, J&B Importers, Johnson Bank, Lombardino's, Mavic-adidas, Olympic Supply, Pacific Cycle, Park Tools, Planet Bike, QBP, Rack Attack, Raleigh, REI, Revolution Cycles, Seattle Bike Supply, Shimano, SRAM, Tara Hampton Court , Trek, True Temper/Alpha Q, UW Sports, Vision Quest Coaching Services, Waterford Precision Cycles, Weary Traveler, and Zipp. The Master of Ceremonies was Randol White of Madison's NBC 15 TV. One lucky attendee won a Trek Travel Trip for two!

Also at the fund raiser, the Bicycle Federation of Wisconsin gave out the following awards:

2005 Supervolunteer of the Year:
Saris/Chris Fortune

2005 Oustanding Local Advocate/Educator of the Year:
Brad Henderson of Eau Claire

2005 Oustanding Elected Official of the Year:
US Representative Thomas Petri.

2005 Outstanding Business of the Year:
Alterra Coffee.

2005 Outstanding Ally of the Year:
Jessica Bullen Family (Jessica was an advocate killed in a crash)

2005 Special Recognition Awards:
Becky Yakes, Mary Rouse, and Arthur Ross.
