5-Hour Energy presented by Kenda Racing Team

Georgia Cities to Host Camp and Events for 5-hour ENERGY presented by Kenda Racing Team

02.07.2013
Dahlonega, Georgia

Southern Cross Race on Feb. 16; Team Presentation on Feb. 22 Allow Fans to Connect with Pro Cycling Team

The top professional men's cycling team in the U.S. from last year is headed to the summer bicycling mecca of the north Georgia mountains for its winter training camp and sponsor symposium next month. From February 16-22, 2013, the 5-hour ENERGY® presented by Kenda Racing Team will head to the hilly terrain of Dahlonega, Georgia to test equipment and to work on fitness. The week will include wind tunnel testing and Southern Cross cyclo-cross event in Dahlonega, as well as a Team Presentation in Atlanta.

Dahlonega is the headquarters for On The Rivet Management, which owns and operates the UCI Continental cycling team. The last two seasons, On The Rivet-owned teams have won more than 60 races, including the 2012 team championship on USA Cycling's National Racing Calendar (NRC). The February training camp and sponsor symposium offers a full week for all athletes, support staff and sponsors to work side by side and prepare for the upcoming season, which begins March 22-25 at the Redlands Bicycle Classic in Redlands, California.

"This training camp is unique because the riders are coming together for the first time. We have a home-field advantage in and around Dahlonega since On The Rivet is based here," said Directeur Sportif Frankie Andreu, a 12-year pro rider himself who is in his fourth year as team director. "It's exciting to have the guys out on the road with new Hincapie team kits and Devinci bikes. We use this time to meet our sponsors and refine all the equipment for individual riders, but we also find it as important to mesh as a team, and start building a strategy for the season."

The team will spend eight days in Georgia to adjust and refine new equipment, such as the carbon road bicycles by Devinci Cycles. This is the first UCI Continental professional road cycling team to be sponsored by Devinci, using Leo SL and Leo T2 frames. Each bike will be loaded with FSA cock pit, Vision wheels, Kenda tires and microSHIFT drive train. Bold red, yellow and white team kits, created by Hincapie Sportswear, replicate the same colors used by title sponsor 5-hour ENERGY.

Two days of camp will include mobile wind tunnel testing with Speed Tunnel. This is the first wind tunnel that is designed exclusively for cyclists, offers yaw angle, produces industry standard 30 miles-per-hour wind speeds, and can be set up at any location. Speed Tunnel training sessions will be videotaped and available to watch on the team web site.

Team camp will kick off Saturday, February 16 with Francisco "Paco" Mancebo of Spain and Max Jenkins of USA participating in the 50-mile Southern Cross event at Monteluce Winery in Dahlonega. In addition to being the first endurance cyclo-cross race in the Southeast, Southern Cross is the first race of the 2013 American UltraCross Championship Series. Mancebo is a two-time winner (2009-10) of the Spanish Mountain Bike Marathon Championship and Jenkins won three cyclo-cross races in Sacramento, Calif. this winter. All members of the 5-hour ENERGY team who are not racing will host a finish line celebration for spectators and cyclo-cross participants for the conclusion of the race. The event expects more than 400 riders for this endurance event, which begins at 10 a.m. at the Winery.

At the end of an intense week of training, the Team will host a Team Presentation Gala on Friday, February 22. This event will be hosted by the new Monday Night Brewing, an Atlanta-based craft brewery which opened earlier this month near Atlantic Station. Cycling fans are invited from 7-9:00 p.m. to try the new craft beers and meet the pro athletes and staff of the 5-hour ENERGY presented by Kenda Racing Team. Admission to the event ($15 in advance, $20 at the door) includes a private brewery tour, beer tasting and souvenir glass. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Atlanta Bicycle Coalition by the 5-hour ENERGY team. To pre-purchase your tickets, visit www.ontherivetmanagement.com/tix.html.
