Kimberlee's Bikes for Kids

San Diego Area Bicycles Stores to Provide Free Service to Kimberlee's Bikes for Kids Recipients;
Pace Sportswear Donates 150 TdF Cycling Caps

05.27.2009
San Diego, California

Not only will 150 lucky kids get free bikes, helmets, locks and cycling caps at this year's Kimberlee's Bikes for Kids bicycle giveaway on June 6th, but they will also receive complimentary bike repairs from select San Diego County bicycle shops.

The shops include all five Bicycle Warehouse locations (Pacific Beach, Vista, Chula Vista, Kearny Mesa and Temecula), South Bay Bicycles in National City, and Coronado's Holland's.

So after receiving their bike, if the bicycle gets a flat, drops a chain or experiences some other minor mechanical problem all the child has to do is take it to one of the participating bike stores and they'll be back riding in no time.

"One of our fears with giving a child a bicycle is that if they have a mechanical problem that keeps them from riding, the bike will just sit in their garage unused," says Dan Gindling, president of Kimberlee's Bikes for Kids, a 501 (c) (3) foundation. "I'm really grateful that many of San Diego's best bicycle stores have stepped to provide free service."

In addition to the bikes, helmets and locks, the children will receive:

  • Safety and riding instruction from the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition.
  • Tips on fixing a flat from Randy Clark, a well-known San Diego cycling coach.
  • Free Tour de France cycling caps courtesy of Pace Sportswear.
  • Loads of Door Prizes.

Preceding the June 6th bicycle give-away, on Friday, June 5th from 6 to 10 p.m. Kimberlee's Bikes for Kids will be hosting a bicycle assembly party. The event is open to pre-assigned volunteers and media only.
