NBDA ANNUAL MEMBER MEETING IN D.C. MARCH 10. OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS

The NBDA will be hosting it's annual Member Meeting to coincide with The National Bike Summit in Washington, D.C. All current NBDA members are invited to attend from 3 to 4pm on March 10. This year's meeting is structured as an informal get-together at The Ronald Reagan Building & International Trade Center, 1300 Pennsylvania Avenue, NW, Washington, DC-- the same facility as the National Bike Summit. NBDA CONTINUES SUPPORT FOR EQUAL TAXATION AND E-FAIRNESS

On February 5 the NBDA participated on a conference call for the e-Fairness Coalition that is working to pass "The Sales Tax Fairness and Simplification Act" that would require Internet retailers to collect sales tax to level the playing field with brick-and-mortar retailers.

The coalition feels there is great opportunity in light of the current economic and political environment to make progress in passing this act in 2009.

As of February 5, 22 states representing over 35 percent of the country's population have already been certified as being in compliance with the Streamlined Sales and Use Tax Agreement, which simplifies state sales tax systems and removes the burdens and costs of the current system imposed all sellers. The Agreement is operational in the following states: Arkansas, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia.

More information on the e-Fairness Coalition can be found by visiting http://www.e-fairness.org/

COMMUTER PROGRAM FOR BICYCLISTS BENEFITS BIKE SHOPS AS WELL

On January 1, 2009, qualified transportation fringe benefits expanded to allow up to $20.00 per month for bicycle commuters. This equates to $240 a year that bicyclists can spend on everything from new or used bicycles, accessories, or monthly cost of a bicycle storage unit.

Commuter Check Services will unveil a bicycle voucher on March 10th that makes the program simple for employers to administer. There is no cost or fees to accept the vouchers, and they are backed by Bank of America. Detailed instructions for accepting the vouchers and store decals are available.

More information about the voucher program can be obtained by contacting Stuart Baker at stuart.baker@accorservicesusa.com or call (510) 649-1061.
