Action Alert! Save Singletrack at Key California State Parks
A state Wilderness bill threatening popular singletrack at three state parks is back in the California legislature, despite last year's veto from Governor Schwarzenegger. Take action now! The bill has been re-introduced under the title State Lands Wilderness (A.B. 1513), authored by Assemblywomen Noreen Evens (D-Santa Rosa). By mandating a review of certain state park lands for state Wilderness designation, the bill could lead to the elimination of riding opportunities in places such as Henry Coe State Park, Austin Creek State Recreation Area and Robert Louis Stevenson State Park.

Crews Preparing for Massive National Trails Day Events
The Subaru/IMBA Trail Care Crews have planned two awesome Trailbuilding Schools to celebrate National Trails Day on June 6. In Seattle, WA, Inga Beck and Jason Van Horn will join the Evergreen Mountain Bike Association's festivities. In Chicago, Kelly and Collins Bishop will visit the Chicago Area Mountain Bikers. Both visits will include a morning classroom session and an afternoon field session to teach the fundamentals of sustainable trailbulding. Check out the National Trails Day website (use link above) to find an event near you.

Support IMBA's Legal Advocacy Fund -- Important Battles Seen in Months Ahead
We have seen a great response to the recent Legal Advocacy Fund appeal -- many thanks to all those who have taken action to strengthen IMBA's capacity to fight for mountain bike access. If you have not yet donated, please consider making a contribution, no matter how small. With several important legal battles on the horizon -- including a realisitic possibility of opening new trails on Mt. Tamalpais -- there has never been a more crucial time for our legal efforts.

San Francisco Urban Riders Raise $10,500 at Sea Otter Classic With Team IMBA
The San Francisco Urban Riders, using a SRAM challenge grant, organized a team of seven riders for a Sea Otter Team IMBA effort. Collectively they raised $7000 -- and once the SRAM bonus was added in the result was a whopping $10,500 raised for trails, all in just three weeks of fundraising and one very enjoyable weekend of racing.

New Publication Available for Promoting Bicycing on Federal Lands
The Federal Highway Administration, working in partnership with IMBA, has developed a new publication to help federal land managing agencies improve their bicycling facilities and programs. The 198-page document (Publication No.FHWA-CFL/TD-08-007) is printed on glossy pages with full-color photos, and includes valuable guidance that's specific to mountain bike trails.

Report Suggests Trails Add Value to New Homes
What community amenity gives developers and builders the highest return on the investment in new homes for the real estate market? According to a new report, there is no better investment to make than one in recreational shared-use trails.

Beneke Defends Title in Manhattan NYC All-Mountain Race
Former World Cup champion Jurgen Beneke defended his title as the all-mountain king of New York City with his repeat win at the second annual NYCMTB Highbridge Park Hustle + Flow All-Mountain race. A unique all-mountain race made up of five distinct legs (XC, pump track, DH, road climb, super-d) with classes for solo racers (one racer on the same bike for all five legs) and teams (one racer for each leg raced as a team relay), the race makes full use of the IMBA-designed technical trails of Highbridge Park in upper Manhattan. The event offers what no other race in North America can -an extremely challenging and well-balanced all-mountain course in a city of over 8 million people.

Teva Partners With Outdoor Foundation and IMBA
Teva, a division of Deckers Outdoor Corporation, and the Outdoor Foundation have announced a new partnership effort aimed at broadening the outdoor community by engaging new audiences and industries in nature-based activities. On May 15, Teva will launch the Teva B1-G Air Contest, which will invite contestants to create a short video of their biggest-air trick and try to win a trip to the 2010 Teva Mountain Games. The effort also includes a cause-related component where a donation from Teva and The Outdoor Foundation will be made in the winner's name to IMBA to help build the Valmont Bike Park in Boulder, CO.
