Mountain Bike Magazine Tour at Sea Otter Will Benefit California Programs
On Sat. April 19, during the Sea Otter Classic, join Mountain Bike magazine and IMBA California for an enjoyable off-road tour on the trails around the Fort Ord BLM area. Along the way you will have the opportunity to choose two great routes (20 mile and 10 miles). Sign up today to reserve a spot on this popular event, and take note of the great options for supporting IMBA California.

Mountain Bikers Turn Out in Force for National Bike Summit
More than 500 cyclists, including representatives from California, attended the National Bike Summit in Washington, DC, earlier this month. Delegates attended informative conference sessions and flexed their political muscle. Mountain bikers focused on improving protections for public lands, asking for better recreational trail opportunities and improving congressional funding for federal land-managing agencies.

Celebrate the Bay Area Ridge Trail on April 26
Hike, run, or ride a bike along the Ridge Trail through Marin County, and enjoy magnificent views of the ocean, the Bay, and San Francisco. Hikers meet near the Golden Gate Bridge and take buses north and hike south back to the bridge. More details online.

SRAM Steps Up to Support Trailbuilding Fund
SRAM president Stan Day has announced a new initiative directed toward IMBA's Trailbuilding Fund. SRAM will contribute $25,000 in 2008, beyond their annual dues, to support IMBA's advocacy and trailbuilding efforts. A leading manufacturer of bicycle components, SRAM is a longtime Above and Beyond-level IMBA supporter. "This outstanding level of commitment will allow IMBA to further leverage public and private funds for new trails," said Rich Cook, IMBA's development director. Trail Solutions, IMBA's professional trail design and trailbuilding arm, currently has 32 projects in 26 states planned for 2008. "The additional support will go a long way toward supporting Trail Solutions projects, and through them IMBA's affiliated clubs," said Cook.

United Trail Users of California Hold First Meeting
IMBA California recently brought together leaders in the equestrian, hiking and biking communities -- under the banner of the United Trail Users of California (UTUC) -- to brainstorm ways to improve relationships on trails throughout California. Meeting participants share in the perspective that we can cooperatively work together, and the time is past due to start solving issues ourselves instead of deferring to land managers for solutions. The first meeting was very productive with many creative ideas generated, and additional meetings are in the works. For more information contact Tom Ward.

Attend the Southern California Summit in June
Hold the date of June 7 for the IMBA California Summit at Shimano Headquarters in Irvine. The meeting will bring together members of the Southern California mountain bike community and industry leaders to discuss current issues surrounding mountain biking on public lands. The group will also address the USFS route designation process and the California State Park trail access initiative. For more information contact Tom Ward.

Bureau of Land Management Seeks Citizen Advisors
The Union.com reports that the U.S. Bureau of Land Management is looking for citizens to serve on advisory councils to share their expertise on public land issues. The bureau, which manages more land than any other federal agency, has 24 resource advisory councils across the West that help provide stewardship of 258 million acres of public land.
