Make Your Voice Heard at April Advocacy Summits
Please join us for two California advocacy summits, April 13 and 28. The sessions will focus on access hotspots, a recently proposed Wilderness bill, trail opportunities in state parks and a host of local issues. The first summit will be April 13, during the Sea Otter Classic, on the grounds of the nearby Laguna Seca Recreation Area (Campground B; 4-7 pm). Dinner hosted by Camelbak. Please RSVP to Cathy Haagen-Smit. The second summit is scheduled for April 28 (10 am-3 pm) at Shimano Headquarters in Irvine. RSVP to Tom Ward.

IMBA Advocates Flood Capitol Hill
The National Bike Summit is the premier annual cycling advocacy event in our nation's capital; IMBA is proud to have been a leading sponsor in 2007, (thanks in part to a generous grant from Bikes Belong). Last month, mountain bikers from around the nation gathered in Washington to promote a special dirt-centric agenda, focusing on mountain bike advocacy, land preservation and economic development.

IMBA-California Affiliates Developing Solutions in Marin
In Marin County, the press has been busy covering recent trail user conflicts. IMBA-affiliate clubs are working with Open Space Officials and Marin County State Parks to resolve the conflicts and open more trails to bikes. One of the positive steps identified thus far is to form a volunteer bike patrol for Marin County public lands. Bike patrollers provide a vital service to land managers and the public by educating, assisting and disseminating information to trail users. Interested in joining? Contact Michael Kelley or Tom Ward.

ROMP Offers Swap Meet and Epic Celebration
Join ROMP on Sunday, April 29, for a swap meet at Cupertino Bike Shop. The meet features road and mountain bike parts, tools, frames, complete bikes, clothing and accessories. Per-person admission charge for the fundraiser is minimal. In May (12-13), ROMP will offer a Henry Coe Epic Weekend ride. Saturday will offer camping, a raffle and other fun events. On Sunday, you'll ride the 28-mile Henry Coe Epic, fully supported with rest stops and a sag wagon. Shorter ride options available. This event is free to all ROMP members ($20 to join).

Santa Barbara Trails Task Force Update
Earlier this month, the city of Santa Barbara and the U.S. Forest Service presented trails maintenance information at a task force gathering, including documentation of an 80-percent cut in local trails budget between 2001 and 2007. Both the Santa Barbara Mountain Bike Trail Volunteers and the Los Padres Forest Association presented a 16-year history of volunteer trail maintenance and advocacy -- by which the task force now understands the need for volunteers and maintenance and the good work that has been done.
